Long Island Rockabilly Night

This outfit is one hundred percent thrifted, over several years and at least two states. The cardigan was purchased on a recent trip to Pittsburgh, at Eons in Shadyside. I used to live half a block away, pre vintage obsession, though I did often go to admire all of the wonderful things. Now I'm kind of kicking myself because vintage in Pittsburgh is inexpensive and not picked over. I should've been buying in bulk when I lived there! The cardigan looks as if it was never worn. The pictures do not do justice to the detailing on that flower.

The skirt came from the same trip, purchased at the Goodwill in South Side. I have no idea where the green shirt came from, except I know it was from some thrift store or another. It's funny that I even own it, since it's not a color I wear, ever. But thrifter's karma, because it matched the skirt perfectly and was sitting in my drawer.

As for the cowboy boots- those have a fun history. I happened upon them in the Goodwill on McKnight Road in Pittsburgh a few years ago. I had recently been cast in a production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and I scooped them up on the assumption that I'd be needing them. I did, and then they sat faithfully in my closets from then on. I couldn't bear to get rid of them, even though I never wore them. If you'd asked, I couldn't have told you why I was keeping them. But I did. They moved to NYC with me. And then I started going to rockabilly events, and I remembered a conversation with a fellow dancer at a balboa weekend of all places. She had divulged that the boots were great for rockabilly events because not only did they look cute with the clothes, but they were safe on questionable bar floors. Therefore, my infrequently used boots found an awesome new use. (Also it has been a mild winter, perfect for wearing them!) Oh and the flowers in my hair came from a bouquet that Jim gave me. I loved the sweetness of the daisies with the flower on the cardigan, and the whites with the greens.
